Sicily: A land of sun, art and culture
Through the ages,
Sicily has been dominated by many civilizations.
Greek, Roman, Moor, Norman and
Spanish cultures have left
their traces on the island. These divergent influences have created a peculiar
mixture that finds its expression in the customs,
culinary culture, architecture and the language.
The landscapes are as attractive as
they are varied: On the east coast, you will discover long beaches with
beautiful white sand, but also impressive cliffs of massive rock. The main
landmark is Europe's largest active volcano, the Mt. Etna, with a height of
3,350 m reigning majestically over the eastern part of Sicily. Our holiday
houses and apartments are located in and around the town of Castiglione di
Sicilia at the foothills of Mt. Etna. |

Castiglione di Sicilia – a typical
Sicilian town
Castiglione di Sicilia is
a lovely small town north-east of Mt. Etna. Located charmingly on the Etna
foothills at a height of 621 m the houses crowd nicely around a mountain topped
by the medieval Castel Leone (Lion castle) from which Castiglione has got its
name. Beside stand the remains of the historical Cannizzu watchtower which
according to legend has been split by lightning. The historical churches of
Castiglione such as Cuba Bizantina (6th century), Chiesa S. Antonio (17th
century), Chiesa Madonna di Lourdes, Chiesa Madonna della Catena are always
worth a visit. The village is an ideal starting point for discovering the
splendid eastern area of Sicily with the volcano, the sea and the sandy beaches,
the wild nature and the historical city of Taormina. On your trips you will
discover picturesque villages in the hills where the time seems to stand still.
This region is an excellent ground for hiking and mountain-biking.
Large
villages in the area around Castiglione di Sicilia are Linguaglossa (7 km),
Giarre (20 km), Catania (55 km, international airport) and Giardini Naxos and
Taormina (22 km) with Sicily's most beautiful beaches. |
